Dear AddThis Publishers,
We want to thank you guys so much for all of your support over the years. We’re really excited for 2009. We’re working on a lot of exciting things, which will help make your content even more shareable so that you can reach every corner of the Social Web. Stay tuned.
Recent New Features
- Beta Launch of New Analytics
When AddThis joined the Clearspring family of products, one thing we got is the experience of the Clearspring engineering team which created their world-class analytics platform. Well, we’ve been hard at work bringing that same analytics power over to AddThis. We recently launched a beta version of new analytics reporting for AddThis publishers. If you’re not using it already, you’ll see a yellow bar that says "Attention: Our new reporting interface is in beta! Check it out". Click "Check it out" and then let us know what you think in the forum.
- Transition from a Pop-up to a Lightbox for the More Menu
Traditionally, when a user clicks on "more" within the AddThis hover menu, it would cause a window to pop-up with all the other potential destinations that you could share to. Well, we’re moving away from the pop-up "more" menu. For all new implementations of AddThis, it will have a lightbox for the "more" menu. We’ve also implemented this for the e-mail option. This prevents AddThis functionality from getting stopped by pop-up blockers plus it looks a whole lot sexier. Read more about this on the AddThis blog. Send us your feedback – justin@addthis.com
- Doing a Lot of Work Under the Hood
(new super fast backend, faster analytics)
A fair chunk of the work that we’ve been doing with AddThis recently is under the hood. For us performance isn’t just this ancillary thing, it’s a feature. Thus we’ve been doing a lot of work on the backend and with the analytics so that it’s as fast as it can be and your users have the best experience possible.
- Brand New Help Section
We’ve just overhauled our AddThis Help section. You’ll find a wide variety of information including help on getting started, customization, localization, blog integration and troubleshooting. Hopefully this will make it even easier to use and implement AddThis.
- New WordPress Plug-in
We’ve updated our WordPress plugin. It’s way more customizable, and integrated with the WordPress dashboard so you don’t have to know anything about PHP to make changes. Download it here: http://wordpress.org/extend/plugins/addthis/
Faster Download of the Button
Speaking of performance, we’ve been also working hard to optimize the button itself. When your web site or blog is getting viewed by a lot of people, every millisecond counts. The button code is now just 3K at load time and only 17K once the user hovers and interacts with the menu. This continues to put us far ahead of the competition in regards to giving you the features you want, using the least amount of code possible.
AddThis Video
If you’ve been looking for ways to explain AddThis to your friends, family, and co-workers, we have the answer for you. We’ve recently launched an AddThis promotional video, which walks you through the basic premise.
Partner Promotion: JS-Kit
We wanted to quickly tell you about one of our friends, JS-Kit. They’re a powerful threaded commenting system that connects your blog to a community of over 600,000 sites. Visitors can now track their comments, use their Facebook login & avatar on your site, upload photos, embed YouTube videos, and much more. Great point and very interesting food for thought. I’m not sure I have any clients I can replicate this with, but will bear in mind for the future. Regards
